Everybody knows gymnastics. Its appeal is world-wide and thanks to champions of the past such as Olga Korbut and Nadia Comaneci, gymnastics has become the marquis sport of the Summer Olympics. But while everyone knows about gymnastics, there are very few who really understand our beautiful sport. The principles operating "behind the scenes" that athletes and their coaches use to make the most difficult movements appear easy (and they do make it look easy) are a mystery to all but the most well trained and experienced.
Gymnastics is complicated and difficult. In fact, it is routinely selected by experts to be the hardest sport to learn and to master. The highest mountain is the hardest to climb, but it is the highest mountain which offers the best view. And in the world of athletics, gymnastics is the highest mountain. And though it takes a lot of time and effort, the view from up here is amazing!
